Inclusion and Participation in Jewish Spiritual Life: the way forward for people with learning disabilities
On the 30 April 2007 the Judith Trust brought forty people together,
including people with learning disabilities, parents and siblings of people with learning disabilities, service providers
and representatives from the Jewish community to discuss greater inclusion in Jewish spiritual life for people with learning
disabilities.
The event was based on research commisioned by the Trust into the topic. The day opened with the
Chair, Dr Annette Lawson, who provided the wider context for the research before hearing from Eve Hersov, author of the research,
who gave a thorough account of the findings of her work.
The event also heard from two people with learning disabilities
from Ravenswood Village about the importance in their lives of being able to be part of the Jewish community. After lunch,
participants were given the opportunity to consider practical ways forward in small groups.
