Forced
Marriages of Women and Men with Learning Disabilities
The Ann Craft Trust and the Judith
Trust have been commissioned by the Forced Marriage Unit at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to carry out a small scale
research project looking at the nature of forced marriages of women and men with learning disabilities. The research is seeking
to uncover the reasons why families might consider marrying their son or daughter with learning disabilities especially when
they may lack the capacity to consent to marriage and all it entails. The research is looking at how such marriages come to
be and how best to support those who may already be married but lack the capacity to consent to the arrangement. It also seeks
to draw out good practice from professionals involved in such cases and for this to inform the writing of guidance for statutory
agencies. Read more about our research here.
If you are interested in talking to us about your experience of forced marriage, be it personal or professional,
please contact Pam Vallance at the number below or on pamvallance@judithtrust.org.uk All information gathered will remain confidential.

Inclusion
Campaign
The Judith Trust
is running an Inclusion Campaign to raise awareness of the need of Jewish people with learning disabilities, their carers
and families to be fully involved in Jewish spiritual and communal life. To read the latest about our inclusion campaign
see our article in 'Viewpoint' magazine.
See more information about our Inclusion Campaign here.
As part
of the campaign, the Judith Trust supported the UK premiere of the award winning documentary film 'Praying with Lior' at the London Jewish Film Festival on 15th November 2009. The film followed Lior, a boy with Down’s
syndrome as he prepared for his Bar Mitzvah and provoked the audience to consider what ‘disability’ is and how
communities can support and involve those with learning disabilities. Praying with Lior won the Shoresh Audience Award for Best
Documentary at the Festival. Copies of the film are available through the official website www.prayingwithlior.com
Interfaith work: Inter faith roundtable
